The project has been organised within the framework of a systemic project „Foreign apprenticeship for learners and graduates vocational schools and vocational staff trainings”, implemented by the Foundation for the Development of the Education System in Warsaw, co-financed by the European Union under the European Social Fund, Knowledge Education Development European Funds (PO WER).
Practical placements abroad as a way of gaining new experience
and opportunities at the job market.
Project duration: January 2015 – December 2015
Our partner: Tellus Group Ltd, Plymouth, Great Britain
From January 2015 to December 2015 Zespół Szkół Ekonomicznych in Tczew took part in the project co-financed by European Union under the European Social Fund, Knowledge Education Development European Funds (PO WER).

This was the third project of foreign trainings realised in our school. This time two groups of students from our school, educating in the vocations of technician of economics had 3-week vocational trainings. Tellus Group Ltd from Plymouth (Great Britain) was our partner. The groups consisted of 16 students. For the first group the training was a part of their school curriculum, for the second group it was an additional training that took place during holidays. Training for both groups was provided by companies in Plymouth in April/May 2015 (1st group) and in August 2015 (2nd group). Students worked in the companies in Plymouth. During the training participants had an opportunity to develop their professional competence and learn European standards of organisation and functioning of the companies. The training served the opportunity to learn about local British market mechanisms.

During the work experience students learned the organisational structure of the company and the functions of various departments of the companies. They found out what documents were used in the companies and what software they used. Students were also introduced to the basics of marketing and promotion of the company – they prepared PowerPoint presentations of their companies and their work experience.

As an additional advantage, students developed their language competence in natural environment. Training in Plymouth in Great Britain also served as an opportunity to learn about culture and history of this region and the whole Great Britain. As a part of cultural programme students took part in several trips and in cultural events taking place in Plymouth at the time.

In the afternoons students took part in various activities, such as social evenings where participants had the opportunity to meet students from other countries, conversational workshops where they could practice their language skills further and movie nights, during which the interesting British movies were presented.

In participants’ opinions the foreign training was a great experience for them in many aspects: it improved their ability to adapt to new situations – for most of them that was first such a long period of time spent without their families. Students say that thanks to the work experience they broadened their horizons and learned to tolerate different cultures. The other advantage stressed by all the participants was the improvement of communication skills in English. Thanks to participation in the project students established international contacts and they hope to return to Great Britain in the future. Many students received references from their employers and were even offered a place in the company should they wish to come back after graduating.
